5 Essential Tips for Getting Your House Ready to Sell

getting your house ready to sell

If you’re considering selling your home, you’ve chosen a marketable time.

The mortgage company Fannie Mae expects higher selling prices and a strong demand for homes in 2020. This happens thanks to low mortgage rates and a smaller supply of homes.

When you need to sell your house urgently, you might feel tempted to list your house with little preparation. But if you want to get the most money and entice buyers, it’s worth it to do some work to make your home more appealing and depersonalized.

Read on for five tips for getting your house ready to sell.

1. Clean Your Place Up

Before selling your home, you should extensively clean your home so that it looks as neat as possible. This means deep cleaning the carpet, washing all the windows, cleaning the walls, and dusting the furniture.

You’ll also want to do some decluttering to remove unnecessary items. When potential buyers check out your home, you’ll want them to have easy access to things like closets and cupboards. So, try to empty the space as much as possible.

2. Do Any Necessary Repairs

Do you have some minor issues like stained carpets or broken cabinets that need fixed? Or perhaps you’ve got some bugs in your plumbing or electrical system that need checked out.

To get the most value from your home, consider having a pre-sale inspection done to find both small and big problems. You can then arrange for repairs at least for the most essential issues.

3. Consider Remodeling

If you’ve lived in your home for a decade and never upgraded your kitchen or bathroom, consider doing some remodeling to make your home look more modern.

You could have new flooring or carpeting installed, put in granite countertops, get a new bathtub, or upgrade the cabinets. If you’re limited in funds, aim for remodeling the kitchen since buyers will pay a lot of attention to that space.

4. Do Some Depersonalization

If you want buyers to envision themselves in your home, you should remove personal items that distract from that.

This can mean taking down family pictures, art decorations, and other items that might stand out as too personal. You might also consider removing unnecessary furniture.

5. Make the Exterior Look Appealing

Don’t forget that curb appeal also matters! In addition to cleaning inside your house, give your outdoor space some maintenance.

This might mean having professional landscaping done, painting the outside of the building, or repairing a cracked walkway. Also, pay attention to any plants that might block a good view of your house or house number.

Now You Know About Getting Your House Ready to Sell

It’s time to take these steps for getting your house ready to sell. If you don’t want to do all of these, such as perform upgrades, at least do the minimum to clean and take care of major issues.

Once you’ve prepared your home and done some research about the local market, you’re ready to get your agent’s home to advertise your home. Your agent will make online listings, organize open houses and private showings, and help you negotiate an offer.
